Moving to a new company: goodbye Prezi, hello Deligo

A couple of lines about what happened with me in my professional life. TL;DR: a whoooooole lot. 🤣

There was a huge change in my life in the last couple of months. After 8+ years, I’ve left Prezi.

Obviously, this is a quite sensitive topic, I don’t want to write down all the details publicly. But still, I want to record it here that it happened.

You might ask, why did this happen. I can tell you a lot (…but I would rather do that in person). The short version is, I couldn’t see my future path at Prezi anymore, I couldn’t explain why it would make sense to stay. (You might say: this is a very common reason behind resignations, and you’re right. Still, it took me a veeeeery long time to figure out how I feel about this.) I think I managed to leave in a calm, nice way, but it left me with a bit of pain still. (It was a big dream, and Prezi shaped my thinking quite a bit, both professionally and personally.)

I left after a very intensive period of software development work, with a lot of questions, and quite a few learnings for myself. The two most important are:

  • I want to work for a smaller company.
  • I want to work somewhere where I have a chance to build personal relationships, not being as isolated as when working remotely.

After a lot of thinking I chose Deligo, and I got into the groove pretty fast. (There wasn’t a whole lot of resting between the two.) I’ve been working here since September, and I feel good about it, even if it was a bit rough to get used to a more office-focused workstyle after so much remote work. Here, we have a small, powerful team with great people, exciting problems, and a level of motivation and commitment that convinced me that I made the right choice.

I was hired as a senior Python engineer, and there are tons of exciting tasks waiting for me, including a fair share of DX/SRE work. I think this might bring a smile to the face of my DX ex-colleagues at Prezi.
